Bibi, Ghitte, Peter and Hugh. Four orphaned cubs arrived at AMP Libearty sanctuary in Romania in Autumn 2023, ready to start new lives.

Once there were four orphan bear cubs – Peter, Bibi, Hugh and Ghitte…

Orphaned, alone and with no protection, Peter, Bibi, Hugh and Ghitte had no mothers to teach them the skills they needed to survive in the forest. Forced to flee in search of food, the orphans scavenged for scraps in nearby towns. Speeding cars, crowds of people, barking dogs – nowhere was safe, nowhere was home; a plight shared by hundreds of other vulnerable bears in Romania and around the world.

The four cubs were weak and underweight, so local authorities knew they had to take them to safety. Because of the dedication of our generous supporters, Libearty Sanctuary were able to rescue the cubs and nurse them back to health.

Set in acres of pristine oak trees, Libearty sanctuary provides a secure home for vulnerable bears who have been rescued from cruelty or are unable to remain in the wild. As well as medical care and a nutritious diet, the bears have forests to explore, trees to climb, cooling pools to bathe in and other bears to play with.

Sadly, there are still more bears who, for many reasons, can no longer survive in the wild.

With extensive enclosures and miles of fencing to maintain, plus vet and staff costs, Libearty’s ongoing expenses are huge. Each year over £150,000 is needed to feed the sanctuary’s 121 bears alone, and another vulnerable bear or orphaned cub could need rescuing at any moment.

By donating today, you could help welcome a new bear like Ghitte to the sanctuary, giving her a full vet check and specialist care.

For rescued bears like Peter or Bibi, you could help to pay for a week of nutritious food.

You could also help Libearty respond in an emergency and rescue another Nowhere Bear like Hugh.

Whether they’ve been injured, orphaned, exploited, or abused, every Nowhere Bear deserves a safe place to call home. You have the power to help more bears go on a life-changing journey from nowhere to somewhere special.
