Meet Pooh – The Playful, Brave Little Bear You Adopted

Blog

Seventeen-year-old Pooh is a bear like no other. Sweet, loyal, playful – and yes, just a little bit cheeky.

If you’ve adopted him, you already know how special he is. But we wanted to share a little reminder on this remarkable bear’s journey and let you know just how much your support means to him.

Pooh’s days are filled with his favourite things: snoozing in the sun, exploring his surroundings, and playing with his friends in the special area of Balkasar sanctuary reserved for disabled bears. And, of course, eating – Pooh’s absolute favourite pastime. Apples and the delicious flatbread made by the sanctuary staff are at the very top of his list of treats.

Being blind doesn’t slow Pooh down one bit. He’s learned his way around his safe, spacious enclosure with incredible confidence. His playful, curious spirit shines through every day as he roams his forever home, knowing he’s finally safe and loved.

But Pooh’s life wasn’t always this happy. Before his rescue in 2015, Pooh endured unimaginable cruelty. Used in bear baiting, he was chained to a post and forced to fight dogs trained to attack. The trauma left him completely blind, but when he arrived at Balkasar sanctuary, his gentle and friendly character quickly won over everyone who met him.

Today, thanks to kind-hearted people like you, Pooh has everything he needs: safety, expert veterinary care, a space he knows and loves, and the company of other rescued bears. He’s a true testament to the power of resilience and the extraordinary care provided by the dedicated staff at the sanctuary.

We can’t erase Pooh’s painful past but we’re giving him the beautiful life he deserves. Every time he tucks into his favourite snack or rolls around in the grass with his friends, it’s because of your compassion and support.

Thank you for being part of Pooh’s journey. You’ve made a world of difference to one very special bear and with your continued support, we can keep giving him the happy, safe life he deserves.
