3,000 animals rescued following Indonesia earthquake

September 2018’s devastating earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia killed 1000s of animals and left many more injured, abandoned and without food or water.
Thanks to your generous funding and support soon after the disaster hit we were able to travel to central Sulawesi to provide emergency treatment to 3,000 injured or ill pets, goats and cattle.
Devastation
“As soon as we arrived in Palu, we were struck by how everything had been flattened up to 500 metres from the shore. It was horrifying”, said Naritsorn Pholperm, Disaster Manager at World Animal Protection. “People and animals were wandering around the rubble in shock.”
Building on our initial emergency response, we are working with the Sulawesi Veterinary Association to develop risk reduction measures to avoid a repeat of the terrible events of September.
