Pigcasso's journey from slaughterhouse to art icon
Blog
Pigcasso’s story is a special one. Rescued from a slaughterhouse in South Africa, she was given a second chance at life by Joanne Lefson at her sanctuary.
Pigcasso’s story didn’t end with her rescue. She is now best known for being the first non-human artist to be given her own art exhibition. Her bold, colourful paintings became known around the world and changed how people think about pigs.
We’re excited to announce the launch of our new shop, and a special collaboration with Pigcasso. The line features a range of products with a gifted design from Pigcasso as a symbol of hope for a kinder world for animals.

For those who haven’t yet heard of Pigcasso, her story is a pretty special one. After her rescue, Joanne noticed her curiosity about the tools lying around the sanctuary and happened to pick up a paint brush. A few strokes later, it was clear Pigcasso had a unique gift that nobody really expected. What began as playful experimentation turned into a worldwide movement, with her art exhibited in galleries and homes across the globe.
But her work was always about more than art. It became a statement and a challenge to the cruelty animals endure in factory farming. Pigcasso showed the world that pigs are intelligent, curious, and capable of so much more than being mere commodities - millions of pigs suffer greatly in industrial facilities.
Pigcasso sadly passed away in March 2024 but we hope to share her legacy with more people with our Pigcasso range. You can help spread the message that all animals deserve lives free from suffering.
Every purchase helps us in our mission to move the world for animals. Whether you’re buying a product with Pigcasso’s art on it or something from our brand new collections, you’re helping create a kinder world where animals are treated with the respect they deserve.
This is urgent. It’s time to end cruelty to animals in factory farming.
No Future for Factory Farming
