JBS is hiding in your local supermarket
Blog
JBS, the world’s biggest meat producer, has a huge presence in the UK. While its name might not be on the packaging, JBS supplies meat to some of the UK’s biggest supermarkets, fast food chains, and food brands. If you care about animal welfare, sustainability and deforestation, you’ll want to know exactly where JBS meat ends up.
Who’s buying from JBS?
JBS operates here mainly through two major subsidiaries:
- Moy Park: One of the UK’s top 15 food companies and Northern Ireland’s biggest private sector business. They supply poultry to major supermarkets and fast food chains across the UK and Europe.
- Pilgrim's UK: Previously known as Tulip, Pilgrim's UK is a major pork producer supplying both fresh and processed meats.
Which UK brands are selling JBS meat?
Thanks to Moy Park and Pilgrim’s UK, JBS products are everywhere:
- Supermarkets: Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Lidl all stock products sourced from JBS subsidiaries.
- Fast food chains: If you’ve ever grabbed a bite from McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Nando’s, or Pizza Hut, chances are you’ve eaten meat linked to JBS.
The big problem with JBS
JBS has a terrible track record when it comes to ethics and sustainability:
- Animal Welfare: Investigations have exposed poor conditions and cruelty in JBS supply chains.
- Deforestation: Reports have repeatedly linked JBS to illegal deforestation in the Amazon, where land is cleared for cattle ranching.
- Shady supply chains: JBS claims to support sustainability, but loopholes in its system allow deforestation-linked meat to slip through.
What can you do?
If you don’t want to support JBS’s destructive practices, here’s how you can take action:
- Check labels and supply chains: Make sure you look for any JBS related labels, Moy Park, Pilgrim’s UK Research, etc. If you want to go the extra mile, you can also research or ask where your supermarket or restaurant sources its meat.
- Opt for ethical alternatives: Choose plant-based options or brands that commit to better animal welfare and sustainability. Why not talk to your local butcher about where they get their meat from?

JBS may dominate the UK’s meat industry, but consumer pressure can force real change. The more we know, the more power we have to demand better.

JBS is harming animals and killing our world
