Why Julie Is Leaving a Gift in Her Will to Protect Animals

Blog

Julie’s lifelong love for animals began when she was just 18 months old and it’s a love that has never faded over the years.

“I can clearly remember sitting in my pram when a little Yorkshire Terrier was popped onto my knees. It’s my very first memory, and it was absolutely wonderful,” Julie recalls.

Growing up during wartime, Julie’s life was full of animals. Her grandparents kept pigs, and she spent hours brushing their backs, something pigs absolutely love, and feeding them while dangling her legs over the pigsty wall. Her childhood was filled with hens, a pet duck, and an ever-growing passion for caring for animals.

That passion grew stronger with every animal that came into her life. Trixie, her first dog, shared adventures with both Julie and Julie's grandfather. Later, there was Lady, a rescue dog who had been kept indoors, overweight and under-socialised. With Julie’s love and training, Lady flourished, even winning Best in Show at a local dog show after just a year of care. “She adores me and trusts me, and that’s the thing, isn’t it? Trust.”

It’s this deep empathy for animals that has driven Julie’s lifelong commitment to their welfare.

If we don’t protect animals, who will? There’s no one else. We have to do it. We have a duty to do it.

That’s why Julie has chosen to leave a gift in her Will to World Animal Protection. It’s a decision rooted in love and a belief that animals deserve a better world.

“Do it. Absolutely, without a second thought, do it,” she says to anyone considering doing the same. “You couldn’t leave money to a better cause.”

For Julie, a legacy gift is more than a donation, it’s a promise.

“It’s an enduring act of love. When we leave a legacy for animals, we leave a piece of ourselves — a promise that we’ve done all we can to make the world a better place for those who can’t speak for themselves.”

Julie’s home is a reflection of her love for animals. From the birds she feeds daily to her collection of animal figurines... And her hopes for the future are just as big as her heart.

“The whole world must come to the realisation that if we don’t look after these creatures, who else will? No cages, no cruelty - just love, tenderness, and kindness.”

By leaving a gift in her Will, Julie is making sure her love for animals lives on, protecting them long into the future. And that’s a legacy worth celebrating.
